Last month we informed everyone that Greg Elsdon will be commencing as the Minister of the Word at Pilgrim Uniting Church in early October. We are aware that many people from Churches of Christ churches would like to support Greg in his new role so please find attached a flyer to advertise an invitation to Greg's induction service.
The service will be held on Sunday evening October 8th at 7pm to allow for people from other churches to be able to attend. Please see further details in the attached PDF and related event below.
This is a message from Conference President Doug Walladge regarding arrangements for the State Office staff immediately after Greg Elsdon concludes as State Minister on 31st August.
State Board has asked Mark Riessen to be Acting State Minister from 1st September until a new staff position in State Office is filled. Mark will be supported by Doug Walladge working two days a week.
Please pray for Mark as he juggles the extra responsibility with his current full work load, and Doug as he picks up parts of the load.
Yours in the service of Christ and the Church,
Churches of Christ in SA & NT
REPORT TO MEMBERS ON CONFERENCE REVIEW – No.4 August 2017
Since the last report on the review things have been happening more slowly, but still happening.
It was reported last time that there are three streams to the review. This is the stage where we are active currently.
Prayer Partners are continuing to be contacted once or twice a month with specific requests. These requests focus on the review, but also include other items as appropriate. There are now 61 people from 13 churches registered as Prayer Partners. It is really great to have so many people committed to regularly pray for our churches, and to be praying together via the prayer requests.
Visits to churches are being arranged. A few meetings have been held and some have been arranged, whilst others are still to be negotiated. These meetings with church members are to talk about their dreams and hopes for the future of Churches of Christ. This information will be very important to the review process. I would encourage you to take part in the meeting at your church. The intention is to visit all churches if possible. Those leading the meetings are members of what has been dubbed the Guiding Coalition.
Malcolm May, of Balaklava, is the convenor of the group looking at the financial sustainability of Conference. This group will be looking at different ways to ensure the funding of what we do together.
Thank you for your past involvement in the review and your continued interest. Please feel free to contact me if you would like further information or you would like to offer a comment.
Please find attached a great reflection of friendship with the late Yami Lester written by Blackwood Church of Christ elder, Graham Thomas. Graham not only reflects on his friendship and Yami's life but also on Yami's connections with the Blackwood and Brighton Churches of Christ in SA and his campaign to raise awareness about the effects of nuclear testing in Australia. There is also information about a state funeral to be held for Yami in early August.
