ISAIAH 51:4-8

Lift up your eyes to the heavens,and look at the earth beneath;for the heavens vanish like smoke,the earth will wear out like a garment,and they who dwell in it will die in like manner;but my salvation will be forever,and my righteousness will never be dismayed. 7. "Listen to me, you who know righteousness,the people in whose heart is my law;fear not the reproach of man,nor be dismayed at their revilings. 8. For the moth will eat them up like a garment,and the worm will eat them like wool;but my righteousness will be forever,and my salvation to all generations."

MATTHEW 18:10-14

HEBREWS 2:10-18

10. For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering. 11. For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers, 12. saying,"I will tell of your name to my brothers;in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise." 13. And again,"I will put my trust in him."And again,"Behold, I and the children God has given me." 14. Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, 15. and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. 16. For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham. 17. Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18. For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

MATTHEW 4:1-11

Jesus said to him, "Again it is written, 'You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.'" 8. Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9. And he said to him, "All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me." 10. Then Jesus said to him, "Be gone, Satan! For it is written,"'You shall worship the Lord your Godand him only shall you serve.'" 11. Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.

ISAIAH 58:1-12

1. "Cry aloud; do not hold back;lift up your voice like a trumpet;declare to my people their transgression,to the house of Jacob their sins. 2. Yet they seek me dailyand delight to know my ways,as if they were a nation that did righteousnessand did not forsake the judgment of their God;they ask of me righteous judgments;they delight to draw near to God. 3. 'Why have we fasted, and you see it not?Why have we humbled ourselves, and you take no knowledge of it?'Behold, in the day of your fast you seek your own pleasure,and oppress all your workers. 4. Behold, you fast only to quarrel and to fightand to hit with a wicked fist.Fasting like yours this daywill not make your voice to be heard on high. 5. Is such the fast that I choose,a day for a person to humble himself?Is it to bow down his head like a reed,and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him?Will you call this a fast,and a day acceptable to the Lord? 6. "Is not this the fast that I choose:to loose the bonds of wickedness,to undo the straps of the yoke,to let the oppressed go free,and to break every yoke? 7. Is it not to share your bread with the hungryand bring the homeless poor into your house;when you see the naked, to cover him,and not to hide yourself from your own flesh? 8. Then shall your light break forth like the dawn,and your healing shall spring up speedily;your righteousness shall go before you;the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. 9. Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer;you shall cry, and he will say, 'Here I am.'If you take away the yoke from your midst,the pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness, 10. if you pour yourself out for the hungryand satisfy the desire of the afflicted,then shall your light rise in the darknessand your gloom be as the noonday. 11. And the Lord will guide you continuallyand satisfy your desire in scorched placesand make your bones strong;and you shall be like a watered garden,like a spring of water,whose waters do not fail. 12. And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt;you shall raise up the foundations of many generations;you shall be called the repairer of the breach,the restorer of streets to dwell in.

ROMANS 1:8-17

8. First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed in all the world. 9. For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I mention you 10. always in my prayers, asking that somehow by God's will I may now at last succeed in coming to you. 11. For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you-- 12. that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith, both yours and mine. 13. I want you to know, brothers, that I have often intended to come to you (but thus far have been prevented), in order that I may reap some harvest among you as well as among the rest of the Gentiles. 14. I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish. 15. So I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome. 16. For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, "The righteous shall live by faith."

A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet went to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.Have mercy on me, O God,according to your steadfast love;according to your abundant mercyblot out my transgressions. 2. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,and cleanse me from my sin! 3. For I know my transgressions,and my sin is ever before me. 4. Against you, you only, have I sinnedand done what is evil in your sight,so that you may be justified in your wordsand blameless in your judgment. 5. Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,and in sin did my mother conceive me. 6. Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being,and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart. 7. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 8. Let me hear joy and gladness;let the bones that you have broken rejoice. 9. Hide your face from my sins,and blot out all my iniquities. 10. Create in me a clean heart, O God,and renew a right spirit within me. 11. Cast me not away from your presence,and take not your Holy Spirit from me. 12. Restore to me the joy of your salvation,and uphold me with a willing spirit. 13. Then I will teach transgressors your ways,and sinners will return to you. 14. Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God,O God of my salvation,and my tongue will sing aloud of your righteousness. 15. O Lord, open my lips,and my mouth will declare your praise. 16. For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it;you will not be pleased with a burnt offering. 17. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. 18. Do good to Zion in your good pleasure;build up the walls of Jerusalem; 19. then will you delight in right sacrifices,in burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings;then bulls will be offered on your altar.
